Budgeting

A budget built on the days money actually moves

Most budgets pretend money arrives on the 1st. This one starts from your real pay dates and due dates, projects your balance day by day, and tells you what's left before the next paycheck.

PaydayBill due

Sample data, drawn by the app's own components.

A calendar, not a spreadsheet

The Calendar tab puts paydays, bills, debt payments and savings on the days they happen, with your projected balance running underneath. Tight weeks show up before you live through them.

  • Income on its real schedule: weekly, every two weeks, twice a month, monthly and more.
  • Bills on their due dates, including the ones Plaid detects as recurring on your connected accounts.
  • A 60-day balance line with the low point, and the day it would go below zero if it does.

What's left before payday

The top of the budget answers the question people actually have: how much of what's in the account is already spoken for. It shows your next payday, the bills due before it, and where the month is projected to end.

  • You choose which accounts count as spendable cash, so savings you don't touch stay out of it.
  • Bank-detected charges can be included or left out of the projection.

Spending limits and safe to spend

Set a weekly or monthly limit on any category. Safe to spend on the dashboard takes this month's limits, subtracts what you've spent in those categories, and turns the rest into a daily figure for the days left.

  • Categories without a limit are estimated from your last three months of spending, with one-off outliers left out.
  • Over-budget categories show up in your digest email, so you hear about it without opening the app.

Annual expenses and sinking funds

Insurance twice a year, registration, holidays: costs that don't come monthly get their own place. Sinking funds track a yearly target, a monthly contribution, a balance and a target date, so the big bill is already covered when it lands.

Shared with your household

Budgets belong to the household, so partners plan from the same numbers. A daily, weekly or monthly digest email sums up spending, bills coming due, goals and the review queue, sent at your local time.

What it doesn't do

  • Unspent budget doesn't roll over to next month.
  • Cash you spend outside connected accounts isn't seen until you enter it.
  • It plans and projects; it doesn't move money or pay bills for you.
