AI assistants

Ask your AI assistant about your money

My AI Fin App has a connector for AI assistants, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other MCP client and ask about your budget, debts, spending and goals in plain language. The answers come from your own numbers.

Server URL

https://www.myaifin.app/mcp

Paste this wherever your assistant asks for an MCP server or a custom connector URL.

Connect your assistant

Claude: claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps

Signs in with your My AI Fin account. No token to copy. Read-only

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it My AI Fin and paste the server URL above.
  3. Choose Connect, sign in to My AI Fin App, and choose Allow access.
  4. Start a new chat and ask: how am I doing this month?

ChatGPT

Signs in with your My AI Fin account, the same way as Claude. Read-only

  1. In ChatGPT's settings, add a custom connector (it needs developer mode) with the server URL above.
  2. Sign in to My AI Fin App when asked, and choose Allow access.

We have not tested ChatGPT end to end yet. If it will not connect, tell us through the contact page.

Claude Code

Uses a personal access token you create in the app. Read-only, or read and write

  1. In My AI Fin App, open Settings, then Assistants, and create a token. It is shown once.
  2. Run this in your terminal, with your token in place of YOUR_TOKEN:
claude mcp add --transport http myaifin https://www.myaifin.app/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"

Cursor and other MCP clients

Uses a personal access token you create in the app. Read-only, or read and write

  1. In My AI Fin App, open Settings, then Assistants, and create a token.
  2. Add the server to your client's MCP configuration, with your token in place of YOUR_TOKEN:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "myaifin": {
      "url": "https://www.myaifin.app/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"
      }
    }
  }
}

What you can ask

  • How am I doing this month compared with last month?
  • What am I paying for subscriptions, and did any of them go up?
  • When will my credit cards be paid off if I put an extra $200 a month toward them?
  • Will I run short before my next paycheck?
  • How has my net worth changed this year?
  • Which transactions still need a category?

Not sure where to start? Ask the assistant what it can do with your finances, and it will list everything.

What it can do

  • Read your accounts, debts, transactions, budgets, goals, subscriptions, upcoming bills and net worth history.
  • Run the same payoff and cash-flow math as the app, so its answers match what you see there.
  • With a read and write token only: categorise transactions, mark transfers and reimbursements so they do not count as spending, add notes, and set category budgets.

What it can never do

  • Link or disconnect a bank
  • Add, edit or delete accounts, debts or goals
  • Move money
  • Delete anything

Every tool, in plain words

You never pick these yourself. Ask your question and the assistant chooses the tools it needs.

Reading

  • Overview: net worth, cash on hand, this month's spending and income against last month, and when your banks last synced
  • Accounts and debts, with balances, APRs, credit limits, minimums and due dates
  • Transactions: search by text, date, category, account, amount or tag, and open any one in detail
  • Spending and income totals by category, merchant, account or month
  • Subscriptions and recurring charges, with the next expected date
  • Upcoming bills, debt payments and income
  • Budgets for a month, with what is spent, what is left and whether you are on pace
  • Goals, with the monthly amount needed to hit each date
  • Net worth over time, and the balance history of any one account or debt
  • Debt payoff: avalanche, snowball or minimums only, with an optional extra payment
  • Cash-flow projection: your balance day by day, as on the Budgeting page
  • Transactions waiting for a category in your review queue
  • Read-only SQL over your own data, for questions the other tools do not cover

Changing, with a read and write token only

  • Categorise transactions, and optionally save a rule for the merchant
  • Exclude transfers and reimbursements from spending, or put them back
  • Add a note to a transaction, which your household sees in the app
  • Set or clear a category's monthly budget

Ready-made prompts

Assistants that support MCP prompts offer these as shortcuts:

  • Monthly money review: spend against budget, the biggest categories and merchants, and what to change next month
  • Find savings: subscriptions, creeping categories, fees and interest, and a better order for your debts
  • Clean up the review queue: proposes a category for each waiting transaction and applies them once you confirm

Your data

The connector acts as you. Every request runs under the same database rules as the app, so an assistant can read the same data your own sign-in can, including shared household data, and nothing more. It never sees your password or your bank sign-in.

The company behind your assistant (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT) receives the answers it asks for, under its own privacy policy.

We record which tools were called and whether they worked, for 90 days. We never record what you asked, the text of any SQL (only which tables it read), amounts, or the data returned.

Disconnect any time under Settings, Assistants. A revoked token stops working immediately.

If something isn't working

It says assistant access is part of Pro
The connector checks your household's plan on every request. Look under Settings, Plan in the app. Once Pro is active, the next question works; there is nothing to reconnect.
It asks me to sign in again
A connection stays signed in as long as it is used at least once every 30 days. After a longer gap, or after you disconnect it under Settings, Assistants, connect again from the assistant's connector settings.
Signing in asks for a code
If you use two-factor sign-in, you enter your code before the Allow access screen. That is expected: an assistant only connects through a fully signed-in you.
Claude asks before every tool
That is Claude's own setting. In Claude, open Settings, Connectors, choose My AI Fin, and set the tools you are comfortable with to Always allow.
It cannot see my partner's accounts
An assistant sees what you see in the app. If the accounts are missing in the app too, check that you are both in the same household under Settings, Team. If they show in the app but not in the assistant, tell us through the contact page.
My token stopped working
Tokens expire on the date you chose when you made them (90 days unless you changed it), and a revoked token stops at once. Create a new one under Settings, Assistants and replace it in your client's configuration. Each token is shown only once.
I have old or duplicate connections
Remove them in the assistant's own settings, and disconnect them under Settings, Assistants, Connected assistants, which ends their access on our side.

Questions

Can I ask Claude or ChatGPT about my finances?
Yes. My AI Fin has a connector (an MCP server) that lets an AI assistant read your data with exactly the access you have in the app, and tidy your transactions if you allow it. Set it up under Settings, Assistants. It is part of Pro.
Which assistants work?
Anything that speaks MCP. Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor use a personal access token you create in Settings. claude.ai and ChatGPT custom connectors sign in with your My AI Fin account instead of a token, and you can see and disconnect them under Settings, Assistants. ChatGPT uses the same sign-in flow as claude.ai but we have not tested it end to end yet; if it will not connect, tell us through the contact page.
What can I ask?
How you are doing this month, spending by category, merchant or month, what subscriptions you pay for, when your debts are paid off under different strategies, whether you will be short before payday, your net worth over time, what bills are coming up, and anything else the data can answer. Ask the assistant "what can you do with my finances?" and it will list everything.
Can it change my data?
Only with a read and write token, and only in four ways: categorise transactions, mark transfers and reimbursements so they do not count as spending, add a note to a transaction, and set a category budget. It can never link a bank, add or edit accounts, debts or goals, move money, or delete anything.
What does the assistant see?
The same data your own sign-in can read in the app, including shared household data, and nothing more. The connector runs every query as you, under the same row-level security the app uses. A token acts as you, so treat it like a password: it is shown once, and you can revoke it in Settings the moment you stop trusting the device it lives on.
What do you record when I use an assistant?
Which tools were called and whether they worked, for 90 days, so we can see what is used and what fails. We never record what you asked, the text of any SQL (only which tables it read), amounts, or the data returned. You can see your own recent activity under Settings, Assistants.
What are gap reports?
An assistant could once record a one-sentence, detail-free description of something it could not do with your data, if you switched this on. The feature is paused: nothing new is recorded. Anything saved earlier is listed in Settings → Assistants, where you can delete it.
How do I disconnect an assistant?
Revoke or delete its token under Settings, Assistants. It stops working immediately. For claude.ai or ChatGPT, also remove the connector in that assistant's settings.
Does it cost extra?
No. AI assistant access is included in Pro, alongside bank sync. During early access everyone has Pro.
